Serial LCDs are generally much easier to use, but they are more costly than the parallel ones. Commands Commands are instructions given to the LCD module to perform a predefined task.
The task to be performed is defined by the manufacturer. Voltage at VEE determines the Contrast of the display.
The interface between this LCD and Microcontroller can be 8 bit or 4 bit and the difference between them is in lcd interfacing with pic the data or commands are send to LCD.
But 4 bit mode uses only 4 data lines. This pin is used to send the enable trigger to LCD.
Schematic Below schematic shows the minimum connection required for interfacing the LCD with the microcontroller. The below configuration is as per the above schematic.
Glass substrate with ITO electrodes. Vertical ridges etched on the surface are smooth. Twisted nematic liquid crystal.
Glass substrate with common electrode film ITO with horizontal ridges to line up with the horizontal filter. Reflective surface to send light back to viewer.
